Courtney To WINZ
Wins Round From WQAM
Judge Says Courtney Can Work for WINZ
From The Miami Herald
Radio commentator Alan Courtney won another round in his to-work-or-not-to-work legal scrap with WQAM Wednesday.
The radio personality got a Dade circuit court order restraining WQAM from restraining him from seeking or accepting immediate employment on another radio station before his contract with WQAM expires Sept. 30.
Courtney immediately announced he would sign a contract with WINZ and resume his discussion show on that station Aug. 28. WQAM's general manager, Jack Sandler, said he was consulting his lawyers.
Earlier this week Courtney won another circuit court decision which freed him from a restrictive clause in his WQAM contract which would have prevented him from working for 18 months on any other radio station within 35 miles of Miami.
Courtney and WQAM parted company after an eight-year association. The commentator has been replaced by Lee Vogel, formerly with stations in Minneapolis-St. Paul, in a program format similar to Courtney's from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Courtney said his program on WINZ will be scheduled from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
